Today, adoption looks very different from how it did in the past. Now, the woman making the adoption plan is in control: she chooses the adoptive family, sets communication preferences, and shapes the relationship on her own terms.

Adoption can be an emotionally complex choice, but many women find peace in knowing their child is loved and cared for by a family they personally selected. If you’re thinking about adoption, you deserve the chance to learn everything you can in a supportive, pressure-free space.

Types of Adoption Plans

Adoption is not one-size-fits-all. Different plans are available, each offering a unique level of communication and connection. You can choose what feels right for you.

Open Adoption

You select the adoptive family and decide how much ongoing contact you’d like to have. This could include letters, calls, or in-person visits—whatever you and the adoptive family agree on together.

Semi-Open Adoption

Contact is limited and handled through a third party, such as an adoption agency or attorney. Basic details, like first names, may be shared, but identifying information is kept private.

Closed Adoption

With this plan, there is no contact between you and the adoptive family, and identifying records are sealed. While less common today, some women prefer this option for privacy or emotional reasons.

You’re in Control

Only you can decide what’s best for your situation. At Arise Center for Women, we never pressure you into any choice. Instead, we provide factual, compassionate information and a safe place to explore your options.
