A positive pregnancy test is just the beginning. While it confirms the presence of pregnancy hormones in your body, it doesn’t give you the full picture. A limited obstetric ultrasound is the only way to confirm key details about your pregnancy—details that are essential as you consider your next steps.

At Arise Center for Women, we offer no-cost limited obstetric ultrasounds following a positive pregnancy test result at our center. Our team is here to help you understand what the scan can reveal and why it matters for your health and decision-making.

Understand Your Pregnancy

An ultrasound allows us to check the health and development of your pregnancy. It can also alert you to any concerns that may require medical attention.

This simple, non-invasive scan uses sound waves to create images of your uterus and the pregnancy. We offer abdominal ultrasounds and transvaginal ultrasounds. Both use a small, wand-like device gently placed against the abdomen or inserted into the vagina to provide a clearer image.

Ultrasound gives you three critical pieces of information:

1. Viability

Is your pregnancy progressing, and is there a detectable heartbeat? Miscarriage is more common than many realize, affecting up to 26% of known pregnancies. Confirming viability helps protect your health and guides what comes next.

2. Gestational Age

Knowing how far along you are is key. Even if you are considering abortion, knowing your gestational age matters. For example, the abortion pill is only FDA-approved through 10 weeks. Using it beyond that point can increase medical risks.

3. Location

A pregnancy should develop inside the uterus. If it implants elsewhere, such as in a fallopian tube, it is known as an ectopic pregnancy, a serious condition that can be life-threatening if untreated. Ultrasound is the only way to detect this early and get medical help right away.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

If your pregnancy test is positive, we may offer a no-cost limited obstetric ultrasound to gather the information you need. Our team will provide a vaginal or abdominal scan.

If you are currently experiencing active bleeding, we may delay the scan for your safety and accuracy.
